About Sam

I am a Deputy Headteacher in a Surrey secondary school, and am passionate about working with young people to help them achieve their potential, as well as leading teams of staff to be the best they can be.

I’m also a professional coach, helping my coachees with their goals and development. My coaching style is mainly non-directive, having been trained by Andy Buck’s BASIC Coaching Model, in addition to the Coaching Accreditation Programme with Growth Coaching International. Coaching is another huge area of passion and learning for me.

I now spend a lot of time reading research and thinking about leadership, teams, and workplace culture. I am available for speaking engagements / presentations, as well as performance coaching work with leaders or their teams.

About Pocket Wisdom

Pocket Wisdom was born during a Christmas holiday when I became frustrated with my ability to recall specific examples from a leadership book that I’d read. I realised I’d lost hundreds of hours of learning by reading and enjoying books without any consolidation.

Since then, I have taken meticulous notes on the books that I read, and have created over 50 book reviews, as well as other blog posts that discuss both general and school leadership.

My biggest body of work is on high-performing, safe teams. This research project, named Thriving Teams, has been a fascinating journey, one that has lead me to work with the FA, LinkedIn, and other organisations about how to maximise their team’s performance, and sense of belonging.
